Departmental Safety Objectives 2026
1. Improve the Chemical Safety Management Across the Department
- The University Safety Office to undertake a chemical safety audit across the department to identify recommendations and actions
- Department to appoint a Departmental Chemical Safety Officer
- Establish a Departmental Sub-Committee for Chemical Safety i. Work through and prioritise the identified recommendations and actions
- Introduce a Chemical Lab Inspection Checklist
2. To promote sensible and proportionate risk management across the Department
- Ensure processes and procedures are in place that facilitate completion, use, recording and review of risk assessments
- Define and document the risk assessment approval expectations at each level: Supervisor, Manager; LSC and Engineering Safety Office.
- Ensure the necessary risk assessment training requirements are identified within a departmental training matrix
3. Populate the Safety Management Hub
- Complete the Safety hub - Safety Hazard and Risk Register to identify top risks across the department
- Populate the Department Safety Arrangements section of the Safety Hub
4. Create Departmental Guidance documents
- Continue to identify suggested gaps for relevant guidance documents
- Finalise the Safety hub - Safety Hazard and Risk Register (SHRR) to identify top risks across the department
