Fire and Emergency Procedure Overview

On discovering a fire:

  • Operate the nearest fire alarm and alert those nearby

On hearing the evacuation (continuous) alarm:

  • Make safe any experiment or equipment
  • Leave the building by the nearest exit, do not use lifts
  • Move directly to the Assembly Point, using a safe external route

Assembly Points for the Main Site are -

  • Coe Fen (from Inglis Building)
  • Dept of Architecture car-park (out of hours, before 8:30am and after 5pm)

For CAPE -

  • rear car park and grassy area next to the Computer Laboratory opposite front entrance

For Reece Building (IfM) -

  • car park opposite main entrance

For Whittle Laboratory -

  • car park

For Schofield Centre-

  • grass verge beside access road

Report details of any fire or incident to the Fire Marshal, Security or Fire Brigade (once on site) and await further instructions

  • Wait for someone to tell you to get out
  • Walk through a building as a short-cut to the Assembly Point
  • Re-enter any buildings until instructed to do so
  • Stand in any roadway or beside reception as this will hinder access by the Fire Brigade

On hearing the standby (intermittent alarm):

  • Make safe any experiment
  • Evacuate laboratory and clean room areas, assemble in Atrium and await further instructions (CAPE only)
  • Be prepared to leave upon hearing the evacuation (continuous) alarm

The Department of Architecture car park is under the building opposite Reception (Main Site).

Fire Wardens may assist and direct evacuation, your co-operation is appreciated.
