On discovering a fire:
- Shout, FIRE, FIRE, FIRE to alert those nearby
- Operate the nearest fire alarm
On hearing the evacuation (continuous) alarm:
- Make safe any experiment or equipment
- Leave the building by the nearest exit, do not use lifts
- Move directly to the Assembly Point, using a safe external route
Assembly Points
For the Trumpington Street Site -
- Coe Fen
- rear car park and grassy area next to the Computer Laboratory opposite front entrance
For IfM (Alan Reece Building) -
- car park opposite main entrance
For Civil Engineering Building -
- grassy area opposite the main entrance to the building, between Electrical Engineering and UIS buildings
For Whittle Laboratory -
- car park
For Schofield Centre-
- grass verge beside access road
Report details of any fire or incident to the Fire Marshal, Security or Fire Brigade (once on site) and await further instructions
DO NOT:
- Wait for someone to tell you to get out
- Walk through a building as a short-cut to the Assembly Point
- Re-enter any buildings until instructed to do so
- Stand in any roadway or beside reception as this will hinder access by the Fire Service
On hearing the standby (intermittent alarm - Trumpington Street):
- Make safe any experiment
- Be prepared to leave upon hearing the evacuation (continuous) alarm
